Young Democrats mobilizing in Jacksonville

As Republicans set their sights on Northeast Florida, a group of young Democrats is preparing to fight back.

More than 50 people are expected to attend the annual convention of the Florida Young Democrats from Friday through Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront to discuss the future of politics, activism and electoral participation.

The Florida Young Democrats will convene in Jacksonville this weekend, and two Democratic candidates for Governor are confirmed speakers as of now.

Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and state Sen. Annette Taddeo are among a list of speakers that includes Florida Democratic Party Chair Manny Diaz and Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Gaffney.

Candidates for Jacksonville sheriff field questions from public during forum

The election isn’t until 2023 — but Tuesday night, members of the Jacksonville community got a chance to get to know some of the candidates for sheriff and where they stand on the issues that matter most to them.

Four of the candidates — JSO Assistant Chief Lakesha Burton, former Duval County School Police Asst. Chief Wayne Clark, Tony Cummings and former officer Ken Jefferson, all Democrats, attended the forum, which was hosted by the Jacksonville Young Democrats.
